Technology can be used to enhance communication with parents, students and the global community in the classroom. Technology can be used to bring students, teachers and parents together. By using technology such as email, blogs, or class websites teachers can let the parents know exactly what the students are learning and doing in today’s classroom. “While there are many tools to connect schools and families, computers and Internet technology—combined with relevant digital literacy training and a school staff dedicated to parent engagement—hold particular promise as a way to overcome common barriers to parental involvement, such as time, distance, and access to educational resources as well as cultural and language barriers.” ( pg 1)
Technology is a great way to communicate with parents. Teachers and parents are both very busy. Teachers are busy both inside and out of the classroom taking the time to prepare lessons and grading papers time is hard for them to find. Technology helps to be able to communicate with parents without trying to find the time to call and talk to each parent who’s child is in need of some communication between teacher and parent. In the article, How Technology impacts Teachers, Parent and Students it states,” I believe available software can help keep the line of communication open for all parties involved. Technology can also aid teachers in coming up with simple lessons plans or activities. It can also help in communicating with students and updating parents as to what activities is coming up in their child's school. Not only does technology impacts teachers, but you as parents also.”
Communication with parents, students and teachers can also benefit the students as well. It is known that students perform better and maintain better grades in the teacher and parents are in communication with each other. Dr Rudy Crew states, “Targeted, proactive communication from schools to parents and to the larger community is a critical component in preparing students for their futures” Technology is a big part of the future and the driving force in the work force today. So educating student and teaching them to communicate through technology is crucial to their success in the future.
In my classroom I will use a classroom blog that will keep students and teachers aware of what is going on in the classroom each day. I will continually post assignments, due dates, and links to helps that could assist parents with the assignment. I will send out emails to parents of students who might be struggling asking them for suggestions with their student and may be even sharing some research or suggestions that might help as well. Working together with parents will help the student know that we care and want them to succeed and let them know that as parents and teachers we have the same goal in common and that is for the student.
Using technology we can enhance the communication in the schools. We can increase the communication between teachers, students and parents. Intern we are preparing our students for the future, teaching them to be successful in all aspects of life. Communication can be key to the student’s future.
